Our aim is to assist people to find helpful and relevant information about dementia, connect people with other people, places, events and organisations in their local community.

Forum: Respite on the Sunshine Coast
Lorrae O’Rourke from Dementia Network Sunshine Coast, co-hosted a forum with Ted O’Brien, local federal member for Fairfax.
Ted O’Brien indicated there are close to 4500 people suffering from Dementia in the electorate of Fairfax and was seeking an understanding of the needs of family carer’s.
Lorrae O’Rourke made the case for improved respite care on the Sunshine Coast to prevent family carer burnout and indicated the Sunshine Coast lags other similar areas in Australia for respite care. Lorrae presented a range of possible respite care models.
Also in attendance for a panel discussion, were experts from Estia Care, Range Care, Blue Care, Staffing Options, Carer Gateway and Centrelink.
The event was well attended with time for both presentations, discussion and questions.

New Care Assessment Algorithm criticized.
The algorithm to determine a person’s eligibility for in-home care came into effect in November.
Assessors are barred from overriding the algorithm, even if they believe its decision is wrong.
Appeals for Assessment Review Increase significantly – ABC News March-26
New Department of Health figures show that 800 older Australians have requested reviews of their assessments since the algorithm’s introduction on November 1 last year….to March/26
Before the change, there were 178 review requests in the past financial year.
